Learning New Skills For Fun & Profit

ARC’s Adult Day Program provides many of our special needs clients the opportunity for paid work training in both our Oroville and Chico ARC Stores.

During their ARC Store shifts the ADP clients learn social skills, customer service, counting money and what it takes to run a business.  Some of our clients have true entrepreneurial spirit. Like Maryann..

“The ARC’s Adult Day Program has taught me a lot of different things like how to learn a different language like Spanish, be social and friendly with peers and how to start selling my handmade pot holders.” shares Maryann.

Maryann Rodriguez lives with her grandmother. She loves to make pot holders, work on word search puzzles and watch her favorite movie star Hannah Montana on T.V.

One of Maryann’s peers at the ARC, Erin (who also happens to sell her hand knit scarves in the Oroville ARC Store), noticed her interest in wanting to learn how to hand make pot holders and decided to teach her. Maryann’s pot holders reflect all the hard work that she puts into them.

Maryann looks forward for all the things that the future offers. She would like to learn how to run a business and how she could earn money through her hard work.

Your purchase of one of Maryann’s handmade potholders (Only $5) will help Maryann realize her goal. Thank you.

E-Waste Anyone?

EWaste Question GuyWhat are you suppose to do with that annoying old computer collecting dust in the garage or that funky VCR hiding in the back of the closet?

You know they have toxic chemicals that must be recycled and disposed of  properly or you risk polluting our soil and ground water but exactly how do you dispose of it all??

Well, you bring it to the ARC Store! Of course!!

The ARC Store in cooperation with WTP will be hosting an “E-Waste Drop Off” Day Sat, Feb 20th from 9am to 1pm.

“Basically, we’ll accept anything with a plug.” Assures Brenda Easter, ARC Store manager. Bring all your obsolete electronics and we’ll dispose of it all in accordance with State Regulations. We’ll take your CRT’s (TV’s, monitors, laptops), all universal waste like radios, VCR’s, keyboards, cell phones and more will be accepted.

We will be accepting E-Waste at both our ARC Stores!

Saturday, Feb 20th, 9am-1pm

- Oroville ARC Store @ 2745 Oro Dam Blvd (532.1272)

Saving Money & the Planet

Shopping at thrift stores is so fun!

I went to Reno over the weekend… had fun in the casinos, dined at a fancy restaurant, took in a show… and did some thrift store shopping! Yes, you heard me right, thrift store shopping. And it turned out to be a good gamble, too, because I found a cute little red dress perfect for Valentine’s Day for a buck. A buck! It was like hitting the jackpot.

Thrift stores are like money saving, planet saving treasure hunts. You never know what you’re going to find but you can bet it won’t hurt your budget. Plus you’re keeping it out of the local landfill. Guilt free, green shopping.

ManagersSpecials compressedAt the ARC Store in Chico and Oroville we have “Daily Manager Specials” that will make your dollar go even further.

Pop in every once in a while when you’re feeling lucky and I’ll bet you’ll find a treasure.

Missed the book sale?? Really?

Did you miss the MASSIVE Book Sale in the ARC Pavilion last weekend?

The ARC Store went through a wonderful transformation in 2009.

Both ARC Stores in Chico and Oroville were redesigned. All merchandise was reorganized with you, our valued customer, in mind. Our hope being that you’ll have a positive shopping experience… finding great prices, quality used items, friendly staff, a clean store… and want to return.

One of our new additions this year is the “Fabulous Fashion” section (seen above) run by Shelley Mayo, Chico Arc Store Supervisor. Shelley, our fashion guru and Twitter queen, has an eye for quality designer clothes and accessories.

She finds unique items among the donations and then displays them up front in the beautiful “Fabulous Fashion” section. Everyday there’s something different… and they move fast so come on in and see what’s new.

IMG_3491You will most definately find a great bargain on a quality item. Who knows, you just might be able to get all your gift shopping done and safe money at the same time.

Don’t forget that the proceeds from both ARC Stores funds the ARC’s Family Support Programs. Thank you for shopping with us and showing your support of the Arc of Butte County.

Wanna be an Elf?

We need volunteers to staff this years Holiday Gift Wrap Booth.

The Arc’s annual Holiday Gift Wrap Booth has been a festive tradition for over 30 years. This important fundraiser is made possible with the help of volunteers from the community. Over the years, many individuals,  families, local groups and clubs have volunteered as a way to give back to the community during the holiday season.

Our volunteers can wrap anything

ARC's Gift Wrap Booth Volunteers

“It’s great fun, “says Patti Thomas, Arc Associate Director, “My son Michael and I always spend a few hours each season at the booth wrapping gifts. We get to spend time together and spread holiday joy at the same time.”

We’d like to ask you to help spread a little holiday cheer with us by helping wrap gifts in our booth this holiday season.

When: December 19th thru 24th

Where:  Both the Chico ARC Store @ 2020 Park Avenue and the Oroville ARC Store @ 2745 Oro Dam Blvd.

All proceeds from this fundraiser stay local and benefit the Arc’s Family Support Programs.

Whether you can give an hour or an afternoon we’d love to have you join us. Please, contact me so we can find the best spot for you on the volunteer schedule.

Happy Holidays!
