3 Creative DIY Outfit Ideas for 4th of July Made With Used Clothing

Fireworks will be booming, barbecues will be grilling and flags will be flying before you know it. You most likely will be at some event or will be hosting one so why not be festive this year and plan a cute outfit to go along with the holiday? Money is holding you back? No problem!

Check out some of the super cute ideas where you can make 4th of July outfits out of used clothing that people will be jealous of all the way till next year’s party!

1.  DIY Flag Painted Shorts

These are so fun and such a great way to show your American pride on the 4th of July. The best part about them is that you can use any pair of old shorts you already have laying around or find used clothing at your local thrift store.

What You Need:

  • American Flag or Paint (Depends on what method you choose)
  • Scissors
  • Fabric Glue or Sewing Machine or
  • A pair of used shorts or pants to use [you’ll have to cut pants]

Now there are two methods to this, you can either choose to do a material version of the shorts where you cut a material flag and apply it to your shorts or you can go for the painted look. Take a look at these two DIY videos to see which one you like best!

TIP: If you don’t want to do the entire front of the shorts you can do the back pockets instead for a simpler touch!

2.  Patriotic Tie-Dye

Who doesn’t love tie-dye? Especially tie-dye that is red, white and blue!? Perfect for a 4th of July party. Or better yet, have tie-dying be a part of your celebration and have everyone bring their old, white used clothing that they want to dye!

Tie-Dye is rather inexpensive and can be found at regular stores like Walmart or Target but can also be purchased at craft stores like Michaels and Jo-Anne’s. Typically the price may be a little bit higher there though, if you’re looking for ways to save money.

TIP: You can do a typical tie-dye where the red, white and blue colors are all over the place and mixed together or you can dip the piece of used clothing and create a flag type look where the colors are actually separated. It looks really neat!

3.  No Sew 4th of July Spray Paint Tank

This cute tank will blow away all of your friends! Do you have a white tank already in your closet? Perfect! If not, there are plenty of options when it comes to used clothing at your local thrift store, so take a look there for a cheap option!

  • Pair of Scissors

TIP: Think outside the box, err uh, I mean the shirt? Jokes aside, get crafty with it! Have other used clothing you can use? Bring it out and introduce them to your newfound friends; red and white spray paint. Have some white Keds? Spray paint them! Have white shorts? Spray paint them! Have a white hat? Spray…well, you get the idea.
