Behind The Scenes at the Arc Store in Chico
If you have ever shopped at the Arc Store in Chico you know that there is a huge array of items available for purchase. We accept donations every day and rely on those donations to keep the store full of quality items for sale. The Arc Store sells only the best of what we get and has a high quality standard.
Have you ever wondered what we do with those items that do not end up being sold in the store? You may be surprised to know that we are able to use most of the un-sellable items in a way that benefits the Arc of Butte County. Here is a list of ways we use the donated goods when they cannot be sold in the store.
Clothing and Shoes
The Arc Store in Chico receives a tremendous amount of clothing and shoe donations every day. All of these items are sorted and only the highest quality items make in onto the store shelves. The remaining shoes and clothing are bundled and then contracted to various organizations, including The Salvation Army and the Work Training Center who then sends these bundles to be recycled into other reusable products. This process provides a financial benefit to the Arc Store and helps others in need.
Metal and Cardboard
The Arc Store makes an effort to save all miscellaneous and scrap metal and then sells it to a scrap metal vendor who helps collect and transport the large metal receptacles. All cardboard boxes received are also saved and then baled to be sold to another recycling vendor. This also provides additional financial income for the Arc Store and helps us preserve the environment and our resources.
E-Waste
Did you know that he Arc Store accepts E-Waste (electronic waste)? Although we do host E-Waste events, we are able to accept E-waste at any time. This provides a safe and convenient way to properly dispose of electronic waste which also financially benefits the Arc Store. Visit the Arc Store website for upcoming E-Waste events and for information on how to donate E-Waste.
Toiletries and Food Items

We are unable to sell these types of items in our store but we are able to use these products to support the Arc of Butte County Food Bank that is located at our Chico administration office. The Arc Store will gladly take unused and unopened soaps, travel/hotel toiletries and hygiene products along with non-perishable food items.
