Donate, Don’t Dump Your Stuff! The Arc Store Offers Free Pick-Up
With the end of the semester coming up and the summer ahead now is the perfect time for some spring cleaning! But what do you do with all of the stuff you want to get rid of?
Did you know your local Arc Store will pick up your donations at no charge? Instead of overloading your car or having to call up the one person you know with a pick-up truck, call the Arc Store nearest you and schedule a home pick up.
Your donations to the Arc Store help your community in three ways:
- First, when we resell your lightly used donations you help people who need to take care of their families but can’t afford high retail prices.
- Second, you help our disabled staff members gain job training and paid work experience.
- Third, the money from the sales of your donation supports services for nearly 900 families each year in Butte County.
To schedule your pick up, just call the Arc Store with convenient locations in Chico, Paradise, and Oroville. Our friendly cashiers can get you set up and answer any questions you may have. We accept most household items including clothing, furniture, appliances, and collectables. We’ll even pick up your old books and yard tools! We do require all items be in re-sellable condition, without excessive wear and tear.
Here’s a quick list of the items we do not accept for donation, and will not pick up:
- Artificial Christmas trees not in a box
- Bed pillows (used)
- Children’s inexpensive costume jewelry (may contain lead)
- Crayons (may contain lead)
- Encyclopedia sets
- Firearms/ammunition
- Flotation or water safety devices for children (may contain harmful chemicals)
- Furniture in poor condition – ripped, torn, stained
- Government issued apparel
- Items that require cleaning or repair
- Magazines
- Mattresses & box springs
- Medical supplies, medication or needles
- Paint or chemicals
- Pianos and organs
- Toys that have been recalled (may contain lead or are another safety hazard)
- Used bathroom rugs
- Used hygiene equipment such as electric razors

Are you a student without a car? Do you have little ones keeping you at home? Need to get rid of that giant sofa that barely fits through the door? Take a load off while we take care of the heavy lifting!
Call the Arc and our guys can come right to your front door and carry out your furniture. If you can’t be home in the right window of time, you’re welcome to leave your items out front with a sign saying “for the Arc Store.” Your donations are even tax deductible.
