Ideas to Revamp Lamps from Second Hand Stores [DIY]

I don’t know about you, but I love DIY projects for custom furniture, décor and gifts. I am a frequent shopper of second hand stores and for those of you who love shopping second hand, pay close attention to this great tip! Unlike most, I don’t usually pop in to second hand stores for the 100 year old antique piece or even a nearly-new swim suit for next summer. Guess what I’m usually looking for? A cheap, old, and outdated piece that speaks to me! Do you know why? DIY PROJECTS! With materials as simple as spray paint, you can surprise yourself with creative and crafty transformations.

Most of my finished DIY projects were inspired by the original treasure. But, for the less creative eye, Pinterest is a great place to start. You can find tons of great DIY ideas there, from re-vamping second hand shoes to transforming old furniture pieces into chic and modern additions.

Let me tell you a little about my most recent dilemma. Every night before bed and after reading I have to get up to turn my light off. I know, it doesn’t seem like a big deal, but I would really benefit from a lamp. Well, I hate shopping full retail, it’s such a waste of money! So you know what I did? I headed out to my local second hand stores to find the perfect lamp to match my room décor. Although I found some that were decent there were none that screamed, “BROOKE!”  So, I started searching for a lamp to re-vamp. My search all of a sudden became easy!

I followed this tutorial from Madigan Made. It provides great step-by-step directions on how to build your very own lamp!

I personalized my design by using a small clear glass vase found at the Arc Store in Chico. I also was able to find a small floral lamp shade for $1.50 that accented my room great!

It turned out like this:

During my search I found a lot of fun ways to re-vamp lamps on Pinterest, check them out below!

Maps and globes make for a great accent in a vintage inspired shabby chic room:

How about this idea? From lamp to fish bowl! I love this fun and unique way to display your favorite fish friend.

This one is my favorite! All it takes is a lamp kit and an old fire truck toy commonly found at second hand stores. Paint the truck however you please, secure the ladder and hang the bulb. Voila!

Tip: using an industrial bulb would add an extra cool look.

These are just a few of my favorites that are sure to spark your creativity too.

The DIY options are endless. Next time you shopping at second hand stores, shop from a different perspective. Instead of trying to find the perfect element for your room, look for the imperfect and make it perfect with your new Do-It-Yourself style!
