Choose an inexpensive venue

Having the party at your home is most likely going to be the inexpensive venue. However, you have other free options such as a friend or relative’s house, a library, a church or a local park. Usually those places allow for people to meet up and have a gathering for free, however depending on where you are they may require a small fee.

Buy food/drinks in bulk

If you are serving a lot of children and/or adults that accompany them, food can be one of your biggest money suckers. When you shop, buy the items that you can in bulk. This will help cut down on cost. Some other food tips:

  • Have it be potluck style, where each guest brings their favorite dish.
  • Cook something that is a frugal meal such as chili, spaghetti, or hot dogs. All of these are still tasty and something kids love!
  • Make it from scratch. Try to skip ordering food from somewhere. It’s always cheaper to make it on your own.

Get thrifty, literally

Shopping for party décor at a thrift store can save you a lot of money and keep you on or even under budget. Plus, you’ll get major kudos from the other moms on your fabulous party décor that will look like you put a lot of money into. Little do they know…If you want, you can let them in on the secret too, we don’t mind! Just make sure you got into the thrift store knowing what the theme of your kids’ party is.

Keep it short

If you are looking to save money on your kids’ party it’s best to keep the length of the party at a couple hours, maximum. The longer guests stay, the more food and drinks they want to consume. Make it a party where they enjoy a few hours together and then go home. Sleepovers will cost you much more!
