Money Saving Tips: Last Minute Christmas Gifts Under $15

christmas_presentsIn terms of Christmas shopping time, you’re down to the wire. There’s only a couple more days left before packages need to be under the tree. If you’re on a budget Christmas shopping can be difficult, especially now that time is not on your side. Still, your wallet doesn’t need to be assaulted. Keep reading to discover some money saving tips for Christmas gifts that your family, friends and bank account will love.

Bake some goodies

Throw on that apron and channel your inner Betty Crocker! Not the best cook in the kitchen? You can do it! Just remember, it’s the thought that counts. Make sure you wrap up whatever you bake in a festive way! Depending on your quantity, baking should be relatively inexpensive, costing you around $15 for supplies.

Here are some suggestions:

  • Classic chocolate chip cookies
  • Old-fashioned sugar cookies
  • Lemon bars
  • Chocolate chip pumpkin bread
  • Fudge
  • Peppermint bark
  • Puppy chow
  • Toffee
  • Gingerbread cookies
  • Peanut brittle

As always, I would suggest looking at Pinterest for some recipe inspiration!

Print out a photo

Printing out pictures is relatively cheap; depending on what lab you send them to. I would suggest sending your images to Costco for the best bang for your buck while still maintaining quality. Buy a frame at your local thrift store and voila! you have roughly a $5 Christmas gift that will be treasured forever.

Give them something they actually need

While you often want to get your friend or family member something really cool or expensive, they may not “need” it. Sure, it’s neat but will they really value it as much as something they actually need? Maybe. However, giving a gift of something they use on a regular basis is just as good even though it’s simple.

Here are some suggestions:

  • Coffee
  • Coffee mug
  • Bottle opener
  • Wine cork
  • Blanket/Throw
  • Phone case
  • Lotion
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Scented candle
  • Scarf
  • Fun refrigerator magnets & to do list
  • Cookbook
  • Give them a couple of gift cards

Gifting a gift card

Getting a gift card doesn’t have to be boring. I don’t know about you, but I love getting gift cards! Especially if they are for practical things or something that is a little treat that can make your day such as a coffee. Also, it doesn’t matter if it’s in little amounts such as $5-$15. It’s a perfect one-time pick-me up type treat.

Here are some suggestions of places:

  • Coffee shop (Starbucks, Dutch Brothers, Pete’s Coffee, etc.)
  • Frozen yogurt shop (Jon n Bon’s, U-Swirl, Brainfreeze, etc.)
  • Lunch spot (T Bar, Pluto’s, Upper Crust, etc.)
  • Sandwich/salad shop (Subway, Spiterri’s, Kona’s)
  • Redbox (yes! You can get someone a gift card here. $5=4 movies!)

While the countdown to Christmas has definitely begun, it’s not too late for you to shop for a gift for your friends and family and still save your money. You just have to be a bit more inventive and intentional with your shopping!
