Princess for a Night: Halloween Costume Ideas Made With Used Clothing
Hey ladies, if you have a group of friends attending a Halloween party together, going trick-or-treating or just wanting to dress up for a photo shoot, this is for you! At the Arc store in Chico we have an abundance of what may seem like outdated, outdone, and outrageous 80’s prom dresses that we know will be great for a number of Halloween “ball gowns.” Step outside the box and put together a unique costume that will make you feel like royalty for the night.
Here are some ideas that are perfect for the Disney lover who has always wanted to be a princess:
Meet Tara as Sleeping Beauty
And Cinderella
In both of these pictures Tara is wearing formal dresses that may seem out of style at first glance but they are perfect to use for a Halloween costume. You can dress your costume up with jewelry and props found at second hand clothing stores. Everything in these pictures was provided by the current merchandise at the Arc Store in Chico. Hurry down; they won’t be here for long!
Costume Tip: hone in on the princess’ knack:
For example, Snow White should have an apple, Cinderella should have a glass slipper and Aurora should carry a basket. Second hand stores are great for props of any kind. Whether you are looking for a little something to set off your costume or you are in a major production looking for stage props. This is a great way to save money!
Meet Adrianna shown in this picture as Belle with her book
Adrianna is shown wearing a formal dress, red lipstick, costume jewelry and a vintage book. The whole costume, props included, is only $15! That beats the look and the price of those big box Halloween stores.
Last but not least, here is Jasmine
Jasmine is dressed as a Hercules Muse. It’s as easy as this: vintage cream dress, beaded belt and gold jewelry, all found at the Arc Store in Chico. Be creative! We have repurposed necklaces as headbands, used dresses that were cool in the 80’s and completely utilized used merchandise. Just look how good these costumes turned out!

Aren’t you sick of the dreaded “out of the bag” costume? Creating your costume out of used clothing from second hand stores allows you to look and feel that you are one-of- a-kind. Being unique is always in, but especially on Halloween. Maybe you’ll even meet your prince Charming – and the spell won’t even be broken at midnight!
