Re-Decorate an Apartment With Pieces from Second Hand Furniture Stores

Take it from me, moving into a new apartment can be stressful, but it also means that now you get to start fresh with a blank canvas and make it a place that screams YOU. Re-decorating your new digs or even just re-vamping can get expensive from the furniture to the accessories, which is why second hand furniture stores are a great place to start.

You can find anything you are imagining for a great price, or you can turn something into exactly what you envision. When you go to your local second hand stores be sure to look for those items with solid bones. They don’t have to look pretty, so try not to let that scare you, because here are a few DIY projects to transform those thrift store finds into shabby-chic treasures.

Re-Imagining and Re-Purposing

Coffee Table Ottoman: With a few simple steps you can turn an old coffee table or desk into a beautiful customized piece that is both functional and chic.

Re-Vamp Lamps: Second hand furniture stores are full of dated lamps, but you can pick one up for a bargain and design it to fit your style. Spray paint the bases of each lamp and either make them all match or mix it up and have multiple fun looks all while still making them cohesive. What is great about painting objects is you can get a variety of different pieces and they do not have to match in order to get a great look. Once you have transformed the base you can turn an old lamp shade into a new vibrant piece using a hot glue gun and some fabric. Now you have a wide variety of lighting to choose from at a bargain!

Chalk Board: These are becoming extremely popular right now and if you go buy one new you can be looking at paying a lot of money for that old charming, shabby chic look. Keep an eye out for those old vintage frames. By updating them with a color of your choice you can then get a board to fit and paint it with chalk board paint for a fun, inexpensive piece.

Dressers, Cabinets, Armoires Re-created and Recycled

Dresser Media Console: Thrift stores are great places to find old furniture, especially the cast off dressers, end tables, and armoires families donate when they are remodeling or moving. You’ll be sure to find a dresser that looks like it’s seen better days and with a few steps transform it into an eye catching focal piece for your living area. The great thing about searching for the perfect dresser in second hand furniture stores is that you can find a piece to fit your style needs.
