Spotlight on the Arc Store Oroville Day Program Workers

Stage_SpotlightsHave you ever wondered where your support is best used when donating time and money to a non-profit organization? At the Arc Store in Oroville it is put to use in many different ways. While making a right or wrong decision may come natural to many of us, there are a few individuals that need some help in making those decisions. Here at the Arc Store we strive to help individuals with developmental disabilities to perhaps one day be able to make those decisions on their own. Below are a few of our clients whose lives are positively impacted from services they receive at the Arc.

Tina

Tina was born in McClaire, Washington. She has lived in Butte County for the past 10 years. In her free time she enjoys collecting miniature frog figurines and painting. She also likes watching the movie “Rocky” with friends. Her goal for 2015 is to get a second job and get on a weight loss plan. Tina has a good time riding her bike and going bowling with co-workers.

Since being a client of the Arc of Butte County, Tina has moved into her own apartment. With the money she has earned from working at the Arc store in Oroville she was able to get her driver’s license.

Ron

Meet Ron. Ron is married to an amazing lady named Peggy. They have shared many wonderful years together. In Ron’s free time he enjoys building model trains. He has a model train worth over $400! Ron likes to shop at the Arc Store and simply enjoys just being around people at the Arc Store in Oroville. One of Ron’s other free time activities he enjoys is puzzle books and watching western movies.

Ron plans to save the money he earns from working at the Arc Store so he and Peggy can go on a camping vacation this summer.

Alexis

Alexis was born and raised in Butte County. She enjoys collecting unicorns and watching the television series “Warm Bodies.” Her all-time favorite book is “Night Drifter.” In her quiet time she likes to play computer games. Alexis’s answer to the question about what she enjoys most about Arc is, “It gives me a chance to socialize when I wasn’t able to before coming to the Arc.”

Since Alexis has been with the Arc of Butte County she also has been able to move to a new apartment. She works in the Oroville ArCoffee Connection and has learned the skills to use the cash register, with the hope that one day she will be able to get a job in another cafe.

As an Arc Store manager, it was my pleasure to conduct these interviews with clients who work at the Arc Store in Store in Oroville. I learned a lot about my fellow client co-workers. Just like Tina, Ron, and Alexis I too have learned new skills while working at the Arc Store.

One of the most important things I learned is “to never give up and always keep striving.” What I enjoy most about my time spent at the Arc Store is that I have positively impacted many lives and that’s a feeling that everyone should be fortunate enough to capture.

Every donation of goods that is made to the Arc Stores, we are grateful for. Every monetary donation, regardless of the amount, counts. You can make yours go the farthest by keeping it local, so please support the Arc of Butte County by donating or shopping at the Arc Store.
