Just make sure that you have proof of serving, such as your military ID card, drivers license with veterans designation, paperwork, or something else that can distinguish you were in the military. As well, it’s a good idea to call a head of time and check to see if that particular branch is honoring the discount listed online.
Another tip: When in doubt, just ask if the business you are at has a military/veteran discount. These types of discounts are often all year long, not just on Veterans Day.
Brief history of why we celebrate Veterans Day:
Veterans Day, also formerly known as Armistice Day, was originally set as a US holiday to honor the end of World War I, which ended officially on November 11, 1918. Later in 1931 legislation decided they wanted it to remain ‘Armistice Day.’ It remained so until in 1978 when President Gerald Ford signed a law, which returned Veterans Day to be celebrated on that day. Since then Veterans Day has been observed on November 11 of every year. (Military.com)
Many people often get Memorial Day and Veterans Day confused. So what’s the difference?
- Memorial day honors those who died in service or died as a result of their injuries while defending their country.
- Veterans Day honors all military personnel who are living or not living who served honorably, in wartime or peacetime.
So take the time this week to honor our veterans and remind them that they have made a difference! We look forward to seeing you in one of our stores enjoying your discount.
