Can you believe that summer vacation is almost over? Where did it go? It seems like you were just walking down the hall, busting out from the doors celebrating with all your friends that school was out for summer! Well, it’s on its way back and you’ve got to start preparing your first day of school outfit!

Pick out an outfit at least 3 days in advance

Make sure that you do your back to school outfit shopping at least three days in advance so you have prep time. Especially if you are thrift store shopping for used clothing, you may want to give yourself even more time. When shopping for used clothing you never know what you’re going to find so it’s best to not put a time restriction on yourself.

After you purchase your awesome outfit, you’ll want to try it on at home all together to see if you still like it and if there is anything you need to add to it. You can also lay it all out and get it ready so that there’s no stress of not knowing what to wear the morning of the first day of school. You want to be relaxed and in a good mood on your first day, don’t let your wardrobe get the best of you.

Choose something that really expresses your personality and screams YOU

The first day of school is when you are meeting lots of new people, making new friends and reuniting with old ones. You’ll be making lots of first impressions so don’t blend in to the mass amount of students that attend your school. Buying used clothing will set you apart from the crowd because you won’t blend in and be wearing the same popular clothing item that everyone found at the mall.

Don’t forget accessories and shoes

Second hand stores are a great place to find accessories and shoes for a very cheap price. While these don’t seem like they are a big part of your outfit, they help to make the outfit, so don’t forget about them!

When looking for a pair of shoes, buy a pair that you know you’ll be able to wear with multiple different outfits, something that you will be comfortable in and want to wear to school all day. The same can go for jewelry. Buy pieces that you can mix and match with different outfits.

You can also find a backpack or tote

A thrift store is the best place to find a backpack or tote to carry all of your school essentials in. Why spend $50 on a new backpack somewhere when you can get one for half the price at a thrift store? You’re only going to stuff books in there and throw it on the ground in the classroom anyways, right?

That’s usually the case unless you like to have your book bag be a fashion statement, then in that case, you can usually find stylish book bags and totes that can accommodate binders and books for cheap too! You’ll be able to buy options!
