Ways to Save Money During Labor Day Weekend Sales
Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a result of the labor movement and dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.
This labor movement started way back in 1885 in the state of New York. This day of celebration has grown across the United States. Labor Day weekend has become the unofficial last weekend of summer, a time of great food and relaxing with friends and family. For some, this can be an expensive weekend – but it doesn’t have to be! Here are some great ways to save money to get the party started.
1. Find Special Deals
Let the internet be your friend. You can find great supermarket coupons if you’re food shopping. Also check the website of your local second hand stores to see if you can get a coupon before heading out to buy water toys, clothing, beach gear, etc.
2. Don’t Buy Decorations – Make Them!
Decorations can be so costly. Especially when they are holiday themed and can’t be reused. Homemade decorations are just as fun. Decorated jam jars make great candle holders, or skip the decorative center piece and fill the space with a board game or card game. Your guests will remember the party by the fun they had not the decorations.
3. Summer Closeouts
Labor Day weekend sales can be found in all your local stores. Retailers include grills, pools, beach gear, lawn care, and outdoor equipment in there summer closeouts. It’s one of the best ways to save money on summer supplies for next year. You can find the best deals on summer clothing too. If you can hold off on buying school clothes until Labor Day weekend, chances are you will find better deals.
4. Home Improvement and Appliances
A holiday that results in a “no work” day is most likely going to be a home improvement day for many Americans. Most retailers have unbeatable deals on appliances and other home improvement items during Labor Day weekend. Lowe’s is advertising 10-30% major appliances! Also most new model appliances come out in the fall. So most likely you will save even more money on the previous year’s model.
5. Hosting a Party
Are you hosting a party for Labor Day and seem to be low on cash? Don’t Worry. Make it a potluck. Ask each of your guests to bring an appetizer, side dish or dessert. This will cut down on your costs because you only have to provide the main dish and drinks. And knowing that all your guests will have something they like at the meal gets rid of the temptation to buy lots of extra items in order to please everyone.
One of the things I love about Labor Day weekend is that it is a chance for you and your family to have one last indulgence before summer ends. Even if school has already started for your kids, the three day weekend is ideal for a little getaway. Don’t forget these ways to save money when planning the busy weekend ahead.
