Frequent Questions

Because the Arc of Butte County offers so much to our community, it is can be difficult to grasp the scope of our organization. Below you will discover some of the most commonly asked questions about The Arc, our services and the people we serve.

If you have further questions that are not answered on this page, please reach out to our administrative office. We are always happy to hear from you.

  1. What does your organization do?

The Arc of Butte County offers necessary support and services to those individuals within our community with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. We provide a wide range of services that advocate for self-reliance, independence, and promotes successful integration into any and all societal affairs.

  2. What are some of the diagnoses your organization works with?

Clients of The Arc and Far Northern Regional Center have a diagnosis of a neurologically-based intellectual or developmental disability. This is a wide range of disabilities including but not limited to: Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Fragile-X, and a wide variety of other neurological syndromes.

  3. How does someone qualify to become a client?

The Arc of Butte County is vendored and contracted by Far Northern Regional Center to provide services to authorized clients. We receive authorizations for service from the Regional Center for clients who are eligible to receive our services. Parents, Doctors and School personnel are usually the individuals who recommend that a child or adult be evaluated by the Regional Center to see if that person is eligible for the Regional Center’s services due to a developmental disability.

  4. How can I get involved?

We’re always on the lookout for individuals like you wanting to get involved.

Because client safety is our number one concern, all individuals who come into direct contact with clients are subjected to background examinations. Due to this, we rarely have opportunities for volunteer work with clients, but look to the community for help with in-person fundraising events, either by way of volunteering time, tangible items or monetary donations.

The greatest way to aide in our advocacy efforts is to contribute to our monthly donor list or become an Arc sponsor. Any dollar amount that is donated to The Arc goes directly back into our community. Your donation ensures the future of our programs and provides life altering support to those individuals and families who rely on our services to maintain a healthy and happy lifestyle - all while dealing with the heightened responsibility of providing care to a dependent with an intellectual or developmental disability.

We also encourage our community members to shop at and donate to The Arc Thrift Store.
